i want to talk about violence because you can't help but flip on any cable news show pick up a newspaper and the lead every night is a horrific act of violence. You have no idea how many parts of the world are peaceful just by being told about the part the the ones that are not so the only way you really can tell what has what the trends for violence are is to count the number of violent episodes as a proportion of the number of opportunities for for violence now. plot it over time and see how it's changed and when you do you find something astonishing that virtually every measure of violence has come down over the course of history.
