Is Progress Ineliable for Critical Theorists?
I'm just unconvinced I think you know people might be let's say in favor of gay marriage if we want to stick with that example for all sorts of reasons none of which necessarily seem to me to imply that they would think of it as representing a kind of culmination of a historical learning process. But Hanette tries to make a kind of transcendental argument that progress is inelimitable for people doing critical theory and what I try to do in the book is to really probe that transcendental argument. And there are all sorts of Reasons one might be in favor of it that that don't necessarily commit one to this kind of story about progress that Hannah thinks we have to be.
