The British Empire and the Transatlantic Slavery Trade

The British Empire arose when slavery was being abolished at the turn of the 18th 19th century. From very early on the emphasis was on getting rid of slavery not encouraging it. The transatlantic slave trade was an outcome of Western European powers trading off the coast of West Africa with West African kingdoms. We don't remember how many African kingdoms thrived on it as well.
