Cliff berten came from the jazz and classical world where the bass guitar is either bowed or plucked with the flesh of your fingers. i believe somewhat heredically that cliff berten was not that great though i do like his sound on kill em all i don't think it's controversial for me to say that both finger style and pick style bass are awesome and they both have their place in this world Cliff berten tended to play with a lot of looseness and spontaneity which contrasts so brilliantly on kill them all with james headfield's military precision on the rhythm guitar. cliffs corresponding bass note seems to kind of swell up underneath like a little after
