The Rebellion of Edward the Second
Isabella was always planning something like this, says author. Evidence suggests they were very close until 1324-ish. It's only when she gets to France and her son is with her do things start to change. She obviously starts to meet the exiles in France - one of whom is Roger Mortimer. There is a strong implication both by Edward and by chroniclers that Roger and Isabella start a physical as well as political relationship. When it comes to the invasion and later 1326, they know that they've neutralised lots of dissent in England. They will get a decent reception but won't be met by a royal army.
