It's an extraordinary story, but the reason it's overlooked is is politics and the way the war turned out. The Communist Party of Great Britain had been staunchly anti-fascist up until Barbarossa. Now that the Soviets are accommodating the Nazi party and accommodating Nazi Germany, they have to go, Oh, it's everything's cool. And in fact, the Nazis aren't that bad. So you have this very odd thing going on in the left,. which then of course, after Barbarossa, that flips over.
