Climate Change and the National Security Community
The military has long recognized the impact of climate change on national security, as early as the 19 seventies. Military funding helped establish the first carbon dioxide monitoring stations in hawaii and anarctica. The office of naval research funded studies about dispersion of radioactive particles after a nuclear explosion which led to a break through in our understanding of the carbon cycle.
