One day after her murder, steve visits with cathy's mam and has a whole lot to say. He tells her that he spilled some fish grease on the carpet the day before. Later that same day, kathys sherry valentine visits the page home and immediately notices this really strong chemical odor when stev answers the door. And it seems to be around the same exact spot where cathy supposedly cut herself shaving,. which is just like ultra convenient. Not to mention stene's strange behaviour with police. Authorities are lazer focused non-steve from the very beginning.
