Is the Great Hunger a Famine?

Famine is more than just trigged by a potato blight disease. Famine is a process. And when i think about the great famine in ireland, i think about it in terms of a century of colonization. The poorest people were marginalized, dispossessed of the land and there forced to depend on potatoes. So famine isn't just about immediate food chortitus. It's an ongoing political process. I use them both. But i also see why some people feel very strongly about the term the famine. We'll dig into some of the causes and consequences in more detail in this conversation.
