The Genetics of Vitamin D Deficient Ricketts

Vitamin D resistant or familial hypophosphatemic Ricketts are caused by inability of the renal tubules to absorb phosphate. Risk factors include premature infants, black children greater than 6 months old who are still breastfed, patients with malabsorption syndromes like celiac spru and Asian immigrants. Symptoms include listlessness, irritability, and generalized weakness.
