The Warlocks first gig with Phil Lechon was on June 18th, 1965. They were meant to play a second night there, but turned up to be told they'd been replaced by a band with an accordion and clarinet. The group soon found that rather than Garcia being the sole leader, now whoever was the lead singer for the song was the de facto conductor as well. By this point the Bay Area was getting almost overrun with people forming electric guitar bands. Some of the bands were even having hits already. We five had had a number three hit with You Are On My Mind - a song which had originally been performed by the folk duo Ian and Sylvia.
