Tony Blair had to change the law that made Northern Ireland part. The Irish committed to changing their constitution, which was written in the 1920s. There were all sorts of difficulties to a Sinn Féin. They had to throw away absolute tablets of stone. It took really nine years until 2007 until the thing bedded in properly.
