The Aztecs and Cannibalism
The aztecs had a solar religion centring on the sort of astronomical temples around tenoc titlan. They believed that their rule over their empire was justified because they were priests of the sun and of the heavenly gods. And as part of that, they performed many human sacrifices as offerings to the sun god and other heavenly gods. There was also cannibalism. We know that some of these human sacrifices were eaten in whole or in part by the priests of the temple.
