Three Fathers - The Only Picture in the Book
The opening essay is called three fathers, and it's accompanied by the only picture in the book. N ask them in advance whether you could have a picture of them altogether, ind its. There's a great line in the book where it says, we were all standing waiting for the photographer. My father told me later on the phone that mike said at one of the men, you know what she's doing, don't you? She's going to wait until the three of us are dead, and then she's going to write about us. This is the picture that will run with the piece.
