My mother had been born, as I said, in Berlin in 1933. And Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt. They were both therefore part of the German-Jewish refugee community. The strongest connection is that Ruth, my aunt, my mother's older sister and Margot were in school together. So on one occasion, the rabbi gets the two of them to witness a wedding that's been taking place in secrecy.
