Up until the conversion of Constantine, Christianity is a small sect of very devout believers. In the late Roman period, that starts to change as we see Christianity becoming a mass religion for the first time. But it's still not a particularly mass mass religion in the sense that 85 to 90% of everyone in the late Roman Empire is a peasant of one kind or another.
