(4:00) Gary changed his approach based on observations in his practice. He became targeted by Big Food and others because of his messaging. He protested the ridiculous things recommend to diabetics: They were told it was ok to have ice cream and cookies 3 times a day! Journalists were targeted as well. (11:00) All they were doing is talking about biochemical science. The health system didn't want to admit that it got it all wrong. (12:45) The last time the medical community admitted fault was thalidomide in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Thousands of babies were affected worldwide, born with multiple physical deformities. The difference is now the number of people affected by bad medical advice is in the millions. DIETARY GUIDELINES AND MYTHS Vinnie talks to Gary about his recent Instagram post about avoiding oatmeal and the negative responses he received because people just can't believe oatmeal is bad for you. (14:00) Gary explains how just 4 g of carbs–ONE TEASPOON—can hurt your body. (17:00) Gary defines what the recommended dietary guidelines should be: Eat fish, local, seasonal, whole foods based on your culture and environment, avoiding added sugar and processed foods. (22:00) Current health guidelines have been influenced by big business since 1910. Vinnie and Gary discuss using a CGM, even for non-diabetics, to monitor themselves and to learn how foods work in the body. (28:00) The two discuss the origin of meatless messaging through the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. (29:00) Since then, other organizations have jumped on the same anti-meat bandwagon. They discuss the lies about eggs. (36:00) Eggs are a true perfect superfood: they have every single macro and micronutrient that is needed to create life! They discuss the Bradford Hill criteria for establishing causation in epidemiological research. (38:00) Health is a choice: take extra time to make food with your family and communicate, or spend your time in waiting rooms as a medical tourist. (42:30) MOSQUITOS IN THE ROOM Gary explains how he was able to get his medical licensing back. (45:00) After 5 years of fighting the charges, the case against him was thrown out. His case has allowed other health practitioners to be able to give low-carb advice. The Sunshine Act has added transparency so conflicts of interest between physicians and medical manufacturers can be part of the public record. Gary and his team are "just the little guys", but occasionally get big victories. For example, they just advocated (in Tasmania) that no animal images can be placed on a non-animal product (like fake meat) in food packaging. Gary mentions that he and Belinda are just "Mosquitoes in the room"—but sleeping with mosquitoes around is hard.
