Most of walter scott's early novels are set in scotland. He is very concerned with presenting the conflict and the differences between different cultures. Because he depicts these the settings very realistically, i think it became very vivid in people's imaginations. It became something that they could imagine very well and something that they really wanted to see. And for readers, the whole of scotland became synonymous with the highlands. So highland culture, highland clan share ls of loyalty, became something that all of sctland was associated with.
