The History of Cornish Identity

I wonder how much of Cornish identity today is a recent invention or a reinvention of imagined identities from the past. These days, if you look at any article published online about Cornwall that mentions the word England there'll be a flurry of angry responses saying it's not England and it's not a county. People are very insistent on calling it a duchy, which is a peculiar thing because that's really quite a recent thing. But what we have to be careful about is not claiming that all people were secretly speaking the Cornish language with unbroken continuity in prehistory.
