John Defterios looks at the role of a representative in today's political climate. He says it is one approach to elect somebody because you want them to exercise there their judgment in your stead. The other is, no, thouare there to do what they want you to do on policy after policy. And if you don't do it, then they can kick you out, he argues. But still, defterios writes, we need to adopt those tactics and not embrace them.
