Anaxagoras got into trouble. There's a story that the books of prodocus were burned in the agora. Clearly they were very worried by these kinds of developments. So anyway, anexagoras e er, was imprisoned and put on trial,. And pericles couldn't get him off, and he was exiled to his homeland. Now there's been a lot ofa hesitation on the part of scholars to accept this because they believe that the athenians must have actually been enlightened people. It doesn't follow that they would understand the relation between religion and science.
