Chivalry in the Middle Ages

From thelate ninth and certainly t tenth, eleventh into the twelfth century, there is a transformation in the social standing of the mounted warrior. Whether that amounts to a total transformation of society into fistingwig or feudalism, is unanswerable at this moment - possibly ever. The third thing that happens is that as knights become more militarily important and gain more social prestige, they also start to create what we now call chivalry. It's sort of a moral, ethical, partly religious, partly literary code, which in some ways, like brushes over the horrid reality of what knighthood really is, which is professional killing.
