Cathedrals in the 16 Forties and Sixties
Thomas cromwell, when the monasteries were dissolved, took the roofs off. As soon as he was the roof off a monastic church, the place begins to deteriorate. And you simply can't put the monks back. This is what mery tudor found. Even only a few years later, it was getting too difficult. The puritans in 16 fifties didn't take the roofs off and so when charles the second came back in 16 60, it wasn't too difficult to re establish the cathedrals. So that is how they survive that challenge. But then, of course, the crown loses power. And so the cathedral opponents in the 16
