Did the Egyptians See the Pharaoh as an Actual Deity?
Egypt was home to quite a large Jewish population by the end of the dynastic age. The Egyptians, because they would accept many gods, were happy to live alongside them. Christianity, however, was a different matter and closed down the state temples. So there was no evidence of perhaps these faiths coming in and persecuting the old beliefs? No. I think if you didn't believe what the Roman emperors wanted you to believe you were in trouble,. but the Pharaoh didn't really care what the people believed.
