The Crisis of the Italian Left
Until the 80s, Italy had the largest communist party in any European country. Many parties ended up being dissolved and many politicians fed into exile afterwards. Italian left's share of electorate has long been just about as anemic as economic growth. The solutions to these problems were unfortunately the wrong kind because it was hard to do anything that actually threatened the rents of these elites.
