The Origins of the Norran Principalities
The duchy of normandy originated with a group of vikings led by a man called rue or rollo, who was granted land in the seine valley at the start of the tenth century. And they and their descendants fought off others because it was a very complicated era in politics. A strong cohesive duchy had emerged by around the year one thousand. Around that time you begin to find normans in italy and in the byzantine empire in eastern europe.
