The Philippian Is a Really Interesting Monument
At olympia, which is this ancient sanctuary of zeus in the peloponnese, you have a sacred precinct dedicated to zeus. And inside the sacred precinct is a circular structure called the philippian. It's named after philip the second, who was the father of alexander the great. In doing that, then also making a statement about connecting them to divinities, to gods. So if herod is going to make a claim that among his jewish population, it can't be quite that he's not worshipping himself as a ruler, right?
