The Pathophysiology of Dupatren's Disease

The loss of normal motion between palmar fascia ligaments causes stress concentrations which stimulate fibrous tissue deposition and contracture. High levels of TGF beta may hinder apoptosis of the active myofibraglass, unlike normal tissue healing. The word at all performed a tissue analysis of 12 patients with dupatren's contracture compared to 12 control patients. They found that dupatren’s expressed a higher percentage of peptide regulatory factors including interleukin-1, alpha interleokin-1 beta, transforming growth factor beta, and basic fibroblast growth factor.
