The Importance of Pyrography
John Ashbury's poem "Pyrography" is one of his most magical inscriptions or transcriptions of America Pyrography. The poem was written for the 1976 and by centennial of the founding of America. It describes a houseboat filled with fake ruins in the image of ourselves, an open-air theater never completed and only partially designed. In it we inhabit this space from which the fourth wall is invariably missing as in a stage set or dollhouse except by staying as we are in lost profile facing the stars.
