The Ghost Heads of Franz Avia Meterschmitt
Franz Avia Meterschmitt created a series of self-portrait busts in about 1770. The idea behind it is that he was tortured with these leg pains from some undiagnosed illness. His belief was that the spirits who designed and administrate the world were torturing him for discovering a linked language between tweaking various parts of your body and having communication with the ethereal. He intended to make over 60 of them, but he died before he could complete the series.
