The Importance of Print in the 17th Century

In the 17th century, print and literacy are really important. The number of publications is rocketing because more people can read them. And there's much more visual stuff - serialization, periodization. But also deep-lying social change which makes this stuff more accessible. For example, women were selling newspapers on street corners during the revolution. By 1700, Whitehall was a centre of government but not monarchy.
