Chris pearson's new book explores the role of dogs as workers and pets in three cities, london, new york and paris. Dog opolis is an idea that dogs and cities have this very, very close relationship. Dogs had to be united with their owner, either kept in the home or kept on a lead leash in the states. There was general an attempt to drastically contain, if not eliminate, straying or street dogs from the city. So we might think that having a pet is a luxury, or is frivolous or just a bit of fun.
