The Importance of Interviews in American Magazine Journalism
I think a lot of the British press these days has taken a lot of cues from American journalism. The sort of investment that's happened in places like the Guardian in long form is all on the American model, which wasn't really the case when I was coming up. You write a profile of somebody and it takes New York magazine. It used to be, it used to be a matter of weeks. Now you can talk to dozens of people and try to tell a whole very deep, very rich story.
