The minister of fed was well aware that a moral would suffer if people couldn't get hold of their christmas dinner. A lot of the suggestions made by cookery writers, including those that were government sponsored, were totally unrealistic. I have strong suspicion that some of the more utro recipes were not cooked they appeared. But what were some of the most successful substitutions?
