Blood Transfusions - The Dogs
In 1667, the physician to King Louis XIV, Jean-Baptie Deney, performed an animal to human blood transfusion. Blood transfusions were soon outlawed in many European countries because of failed attempts. In America in 1795, just four years before Washington's death, a Dr. Philip Fysick performed a blood transfusion on an obstetric patient. He did not publish his results and there is no detailed account of the procedure.
