Our early splitfires would only fly on 87 octained fuel, which we didn't have a hundred octaes later in the battle of britain. Our engine was 27 letres, opposed to the one o nine engine of 39 leters. We knew that they had a fuel injection for as we had carboreters, which, every time you lowered the nose, the thing fle flew to the top of the tube. But i was very much aware that the nose was too long. You couldn't do anything except from dead line stern, or from about 15 degrees deflection. So it had its problems. And of course, it only had 85 touns of fuel,
