The First Mongol Foray Into the Near East
Mongols didn't simply invade in one go. The first Mongol foray into the Near East wasn't strictly speaking an invasion or that would have felt that way to the people on the receiving end of it. There's almost a 10 year gap before the Mongols try and invade again. They're occupied with other things. After his initial conquests in the Khwarezmian Empire, Chingiz Khan goes and fights wars in China. So it is very much more complicated than just simply conflict.
