What Are the Parallels to the Digital Revolution?

In the nineteenth century, researchers published their results in a variety of formats. We've now shifted to a system where people tend to consume individual articles that are most ically relevant to their research. I don't think there are a lot of scientists who sit down with an issue of a journal and look through each paper any more. It's now a much more targeted digital search for specific papers of interest,. rather than excitement to read the latest issue of a specific journal.
