Sitting bull became a very prominent war and political leader in the lakota during this period. And really his movement to defend his homelands gained a lot of supporters at this moment. He used a variety of tactics to counteract the northern pacific railroad. They surveiled and followed and tracked the surveyors, lit back fires to try and force them out.
