What Are Your Thoughts on Race in the United States
In the 50s and 60s, many Indonesians thought that they would be able to take their place alongside the rest of the countries of the world as equals. And I don't think anybody in any academic discipline can really, has really offered an explanatory or a satisfactory explanation as to why this didn't happen. They knew that the United States was a racist country. If you were in Indonesia, you had to be very stupid not to see that. You have to do is to situate the Cold War in the long history of European colonialism of the remainder of the world.
