The Inclusion of Women in Sport
In the 19th century, many mountaineering clubs had been inclusive of women. But in 1908, the Swiss Alpine Club revoked women's membership and drove them out. Women responded to this by setting up female only sporting clubs. From about the 1880s onwards, there's more of a drive to anonymize female mountaineers. And I think that sort of movement from women's sport being kind of visible and respected is something that happens across a large number of sports in the early 20th century.
