The Politics of Detention in El Salvador

El Salvador's president Naiib Bocheli has enforced a gang crackdown with utter ruthlessness. A year ago, he suspended several constitutional rights and granted the police sweeping powers of detention. Some 66,000 people have been arrested since then, and gang crime has been all but eradicated. But it's claimed that innocent people have been wrongly swept up in the wave of arrests.
