In summary what did democracy look like across Britain in the early 19th century? Well it was very patchy. You have to understand that industrialisation had transformed the population map. The rise of these big industrial areas largely populated by impoverished working people. It's the concentrations in those areas which were unrepresented and leafy suburbs and small very old and ancient towns that were overrepresented.
