i think there's such a contrast between that sense of him being clearly amiable, which is quite a hard thing to trace through historical records. He'd alvroasly been likable enough that he'd been able to marry the daughter of the people who had been his wards. And jane dudley, of course, was jane guilford. There are the rebels to the king. They are just animals. Any one with a very strong military reputation will have the ability to dehumanize people. i think part of his popularity is her.
