The Importance of Accepting Righteous Converts
Midrash tells us about the importance of keeping the door open for converts. It's a really wonderful thing to have a righteous convert, Midrash says. Abraham was righteous for a very long time before he was circumcised. God appears to him in prophecy decades before he circumcised. So why didn't God tell Abraham when he was 20 or 30 to circumcise? Why did Abraham circumcised only at the age of 99? He says that Midrash did not dissuade people. The Talmud even tells us that someone who just accepts converts very openly will be punished for it. And they're as difficult for Israel as a skin malady.
