Shakespeare didn't need a university education to write the plays, says TW Baldwin. The flourishing of English literature in Shakespeare's period is thanks to the humanist Grammar Schools, which were established under Edward VI. It's one of the greatest gifts this nation has ever given its sons, and that's what led to the flourishing of great writing in the period.
