The history of medicine is a fantastically rich literature. I don't want to say anything about how particular individuals get lost. The story of Mary Wortley Montague in Turkey is quite well known, and you probably knew it as well. But the person who's not known in that section of the book is this figure called Angela Gatti. So there is something about the sheer density of the literature in which people who seem to be just another add-on to the literature do get lost.
