A major through line across this this US culture of troop veneration is this notion that Vietnam veterans were disrespected, specifically spit upon after they returned home. How was this myth created and what purposes has it served? It's a very important accusation because it's the counterpart to the call to support the troops and thank you for our service. The issue is this is what we did then. And we cannot repeat it in part also because by the 1980s, the argument is if there is such as widespread trauma among soldiers who served in Vietnam now vets are at risk.
