ASIS Evulsion Fractures in Young Athletes
A 12-year-old boy reports the acute onset of pain and a pop over the right side of his pelvis while swinging a baseball bat during a little league game. Radiographs reveal an avulsion of the anterior superior iliac spine with two centimeters of displacement. In most patients, non-surgical management consisting of rest and protected weight bearing yields satisfactory outcomes. Surgery is generally reserved for failure of non-operative treatment or specific types of evulsions with greater than 3 centimeters of displacement in elite athletes.
