What's a Greater Vinger but the Magpie?
It's not the shining, beautiful commercial centre that daniel defoe wrote about a generation later. At this point, it hasn't been redeveloped yet. It's a place of little orchards, little market gardens and a ramshackle kayside where stuff is just tipped. Scraps ond meat, scraps of food, vegetables, fruit and tobacco. We know that the women smoked because tobacco was one of the things that as susanna edwards and mary trembles got into trouble for begging.
